Spritpay is an NFC-based point of sale system we developed to enable the distribution of beverages during student events. Students could register and charge up any nfc tag via paypal before using their funds at the bar or self-service späti.
The project consisted of a backend, a point of sale client for android phones, and a charge up client initially for an ipad, later for a raspberry pi based kiosk. Another client was developed for the kiosk enabling self service späti functionality. Another fun addition to the clients was a leaderboard showing who had donated the most to the events.
As this system was in use over the course of a year, we had many opportunities to improve it. One example is the charge up kiosk starting with an ipad and a usb nfc reader and ending at a raspberry pi with a touch screen in a custom designed and fabricated housing. Another feature we added later on was the addition of a bill acceptor, to allow cash based charge-ups without the need for paypal.
